Marzban Name

"Rowżat al-‘oqul/ Moḥammad ibn Ḡāzi Malaṭiawi "Marzbān-Nāma" contains Amir Kabirnejad's ongoing concerns, which are expressed in the usual language of his works; but this time more directly and explicitly. It may be strange to use the adjective "explicit" for symbolic language and allegorical and abstract images; but in these works, Kabirnejad engages with one of the oldest themes in Persian literature and one of the most important texts of this theme "Marzbān-Nāma".

In addition to his distinctive style, where the artwork becomes a kind of 'image' that transcends the boundaries of contemporary disciplines and revives elements from the history of our visual arts, Kabirnejad, in terms of theme, aligns with the traditional connection between Iranian art and literature. He turns to one of the most important texts of didactic literature from ancient Iran. The main theme of this book is the principles of righteous governance, and it includes anecdotes from ancient Iran to the time of Khosrow Anoushirvan.

Kabirnejad has been preoccupied with contemporary conditions for over a decade, though expressed through allegorical language. Themes like the 'tree of knowledge' or imagery reminiscent of the celestial garden are prevalent. This allegorical language is reflected in his visual work through abstract imagery. His cut-outs resemble those of Matisse in terms of material and technique but differ in spirit. In his work, due to the prominence of linear quality and the reduction of surface, there emerges a quality where materiality becomes less pronounced.
